Dr.’s Orders: The Whole Picture
In theory, doctors are the people we are supposed to trust. They fix our problems, tell us the hard truth, and sympathize with us when we need it most. Doctors specialize in looking at symptoms and finding solutions. During a crisis, you want a doctor by your side.
But what if they have the wrong information? What if they’re doing everything they can in their mind but they’re missing key points to the solution? It can be incredibly frustrating to return to a doctor repeatedly with the same problem, only to leave with more tests and more pills. As an esthetician, it's heartbreaking to watch clients suffer through this cycle. But it’s also one of the greatest joys of working in an acne clinic to tell them, "We understand, we’re walking with you, and we have solutions."
The most common thing I see with new clients who are coming from dermatologists, naturopathic doctors, or other acne clinics is that they’re not taking the time to look at the whole picture. Simple questions like, "Can I look at the ingredients in your shampoo?" or "What kind of detergent are you using?" and "Are you using fabric softener?" can make a world of difference when it comes to acne.
Most shampoos contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfates, Sodium Laureth Sulfates, Coconut oil, Shea Butter, and Algae. All of these ingredients do not exit acneic skin easily, causing breakouts. The public is often misled by the perceived natural goodness of coconut, shea, and algae when, in reality, they are the worst repeat offenders of acne.
Knowing ingredients and how they interact with acneic skin is one of the most important things we do at North County Skin Solutions. I have become obsessed with understanding each ingredient, where it comes from, and what it does. Taking time with new clients to get to know their lives, their backgrounds, and their goals is something you will find in few spas.
At North County Skin Solutions, we take a holistic approach. It’s not just about treating the skin but understanding the lifestyle and habits that contribute to acne. Our commitment to thorough, personalized care means we’re not just treating symptoms; we’re finding lasting solutions.
